Because of high popularity in many continents, N Scale Train Sets are manufactured in many variants. The N Scale trains in standard gauge, which is 1,435 mm, United States and Europe are made for the 1:160 scale. This scale varies depending on the country since some prefer to have their own design to meet a particular purpose. In the United Kingdom, for example, the scale is 1:148 for models meant for commercial production. There are indeed many scales for the N models, but there are three names that should be discussed in isolation.
First is the 2 mm scale, which is equal to 1:152 with a track gauge that is 9.42 mm. N Scale train sets of this measurement are mostly produced in the United Kingdom, and are characterized by finer rails, flange and crossing dimensions. There is also a variation for the 1:160 scale from the
FiNe group which uses the same dimension for the rails, flange, and crossing, but the track gauge is smaller, set only at 8.97 mm. Second are the OOO models launched by Lone Star in 1961. They are the first N scale trains and are known as the Treble-0-Lectric in the United Kingdom. The OOO models are with die-cast tracks gauged at 8 mm, and coupling is accomplished by a loop and pin setup. In the advent of the electric models, the track gauge is increased into 9 mm. Third is the own N Scale of Japan. Japanese N Scale models measuring 3ft 6 in are set on 1:150 scale, while Shinkansen models of standard gauge follow the original 1:160. Lionel train sets also exist for N scale models. The narrow gauge is a necessary venture since actual narrow tracks are common in the country. All of the scales work on the N track gauge which is 9 mm.
